steady rise highlights the sector’ s growing global appeal.
A joint survey by Vero ASEAN and GMO-Z. com Research found that 89 per cent of Indonesian Muslim travellers prioritise the availability of halal food when travelling. The data clearly shows that access to halal options directly influences both destination selection and the traveller’ s sense of comfort.
“ Halal tourism ensures assurance, safety, and comfort for Muslims when it comes to food, prayer facilities, transportation, and other needs while travelling. Moving forward, it should be recognised as a global standard of quality and inclusivity that benefits all tourists,” asserted Diah.
HALAL CERTIFICATION
During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Industry of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, noted that the country’ s halal industry has been showing a promising upward trend in recent years. To date, there are reportedly 140,944 halal businesses in Indonesia.
“ The total number of halal-certified products has reached 584,522, supported by 162,111 halal certificates. This reflects the growing awareness among industries and consumers on the importance of halal certification,” he added.
Moreover, halal certification has become a standard of assurance that strengthens consumer trust, going beyond mere religious compliance. Halal certification is thus a key component of the Indonesian government’ s strategy to build a globally competitive halal ecosystem.
The Halal Product Assurance Organising Body( BPJPH) Head of Registration and Halal Certification Centre, Dr Mamat Salamet Burhanudin, discussed halal certifications and regulations during one of the Halal Connect Forum’ s sessions titled‘ Towards One Standard: Advancing Halal Certification and Regulatory Framework.’
Mamat shared that Indonesia is enhancing its halal certification system in accordance with the Halal Product Assurance Law( UU JPH) to meet international standards. At present, BPJPH is working to simplify the certification process.
“ At BPJPH, our duty is to ensure that every consumer can feel safe and assured about the halal status of their products. We’ re here to make the halal certification process more efficient, accessible, and streamlined.”
The expo also hosted Business Matching sessions, connecting local entrepreneurs with potential buyers from across the region and beyond. These sessions played a central role in accelerating exports and showcasing the market readiness of Indonesia’ s halal products.
“ The enthusiasm this year has been incredible, showing that awareness and demand for halal products and ecosystems are on the rise. We hope Halal Indo
will continue to serve as a platform that strengthens collaboration between government, industry, and the wider community,” remarked Ismi.
