HALAL SURI INITIATIVE

HALAL Suri programme is an initiative of the Selangor government through the Islamic Religious Affairs , Consumers Affairs and Halal Industry Standing Committee , with the cooperation of Halal International Selangor ( HIS ) and Koperasi Warga Hijrah Selangor Berhad ( KOHIJRAH ).

The programme aims to improve the economy of families in Selangor while simultaneously promoting the importance of halal certification and recognition of goods that are regularly consumed .

Through the Halal Suri initiative , the State Government allocated a grant of RM2,000 to each participant . In contrast , the participants only need to spend RM1,000 each as initial capital to buy halal-certified frozen goods , which they can sell from home .

Halal Suri 1.0 was officiated by Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni , Chairman of the Islamic Religious Affairs , Consumers Affairs and Halal Industry Standing Committee in December 2021 at Wisma KOHIJRAH Selangor and attracted the participation of 12 people from state constituencies around Selangor .

Following the success of Halal Suri 1.0 , Dato ’ Amirudin Shari , Menteri Besar Selangor inaugurated the second edition of the programme - Halal Suri 2.0 on June 25 , 2022 , at Dataran Pantai Morib , Kuala Langat , Selangor targeting 100 female entrepreneurs .

SELANGOR HALAL VOUCHERS 2022

The Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs , Consumers Affairs and Halal Industry Standing Committee launched the Selangor Halal Voucher 2022 in an effort

to ease the burden of Selangor people who were less privileged , especially in dealing with post-Covid-19 challenges and the increase in the price of goods . The Selangor Halal Voucher 2022 programme will be implemented from September to November 2022 .

A total of 2,800 Selangor citizens whose monthly household income is less than the Poverty Line Income ( PLI ) will receive this benefit . These people will be identified by the Pusat Khidmat Rakyat in each state constituency in Selangor . The recipients of EHSAN assistance are also eligible to apply and will be considered with the approval of State Assembly members .

This voucher worth RM100 can be used to buy halal essentials in one transaction at participating premises such as KOHIJRAH , MYDIN , AZZAINMART and 99 SPEED MART .

According to the Mohd Zawawi , in addition to helping citizens , this voucher programme will support and promote halal products , especially in micro and small businesses and empower Selangor ’ s halal industry more comprehensively .

“ This halal market is quite extensive and goes beyond various consumer groups , including the non-Muslim community . It helps the Muslim community to meet the demands of Islamic Shariah compliance and indirectly offers the non- Muslim community access to a variety of products that are certified clean , safe , and of high quality ,” he said during the launch of the programme .

Therefore , he said programmes such as the Selangor Halal Voucher 2022 were in line with the State government ’ s focus to make Selangor the primary choice for halal trade in the region and globally .
