Peddlers of
cosmetics with
scheduled
poison warned

THE Ministry of Health director general
Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah recently
issued a stern warning to all sellers and
distributors of cosmetics containing
scheduled poison.
The warning was made after a ban
was announced on five products that
contained hydroquinone, tretinoin and
mercury.
“The seller and distributor of these
cosmetic products are warned to stop
selling and distributing these cosmetic
products immediately. The seller is
reminded that the sale and distribution
of these cosmetic products is in viola-
tion of the Drug Control and Cosmetics
Regulations 1984.”
“An individual who commits an
offense under these regulations shall be
liable to a fine not exceeding RM25, 000
or imprisonment not exceeding three
years or both for a first offense and a fine
not exceeding RM50,000 or imprison-
ment not exceeding five years or both for
the following offence,” he said through
his blog side.
As for companies, they can be fined
RM50, 000 for the first offense and fined
up to RM100, 000 for the following
offense.

Hospital reaches another milestone with
peripheral vascular intervention (PVI) system

NSTITUT Jantung Negara
(IJN) recently surpassed yet
another milestone by being
the first hospital in Asia to
perform peripheral vascular
intervention (PVI) using VascuFlex
Multi-LOC, an innovative multiple stent
delivery system designed for the treat-
ment of peripheral artery disease (PAD).
The procedure was performed by
Institut Jantung Negara Cardiology
Department deputy head Dr Shaiful
Azmi bin Yahaya and consultant Cardi-
ologist Dr Kumara Gurupparan Ganesan
and Sankt Gertrauden Hospital Berlin
Head of Angiology and Vascular Medi-
cine Dr Ralf Langhoff.
VascuFlex Multi-LOC is a Multiple
Stent Delivery System (MSDS) that
allows the doctor to deliver up to six
short stents using a single device during
PVI. It is safe and highly effective in the
treatment of PAD patients with complex
and long lesions (blockages or abnor-
malities) in the femoropopliteal vessel.
