02 editor’s note The HEALTH | OCTOBER, 2018 content Colours of Independence A NOTHER Independence Day has come and gone. There are patriotic sentiments attached to this day for sure, but over the years, definitions adapt and evolve, which explains why being independent is now frequently associated with making your own way in the world. I found myself pondering that this past week- end. What does independence mean to you? To me, independence means freedom for people to express themselves and to use that freedom to improve, learn and experience everyday living. It is freedom that satisfies your desire to become a stronger person and yet does not separate us from our values. It’s a sense of individuality that empowers us to speak our minds and free ourselves from ignorance. To me, independence means living your life to the fullest! It’s to enjoy, yet do your best every single day of your life. It is about standing bold, strong and courageous, pursuing a life of peaceful endeavours while being responsible for what we do. Life is like a painting and I choose to pick out the colours and draw exactly what I want. Independence is the power of imagination! 21 08 04 05 06 07 New initiative to enhance and diagnose Hepatitis C A formidable partnership in health research Prudential launches PRUcancer X Pantai improves detection of eye diseases with OCT technology 08 09 10 11 12 Nurul Ain Huda Abdullah Editor ainhuda@revonmedia.com 13 14 15 16 10 17 18 Foodborne illness - Not just limited to bacterial viruses and parasites but toxins too 22 Campylobacter: Key global cause for diarrheal diseases 24 Trachoma: Blindness caused by bad sanitation Cholera ingested by contaminated food and water 23 25 Tinnitus: The bothersome perception of noise Being in charge of what you consume Running the extra mile with Jeff Lau Vaginal rejuvenation for post-menopausal women 26-27 Malaysia Day exclusive Paediatric laparoscopic surgery Clinical depression in children Non-cancerous growths in or around the womb The cost of losing a limb Fourth point in healthy ageing Childhood asthma - Cigarette smoke outside the house an attributing factor Soya sauce: Friend or foe Testicular cancer - When one or both sides are affected 19 Testicular 20 12 Executive Director | EL LAW | ellaw@revonmedia.com Publisher | KAY MATHY | kaymathy@revonmedia.com CEO/Editor-in-chief | LAW BENG CHEE | bclaw@revonmedia.com 21 SMART PARTNESHIP EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT Editor | NURUL AIN HUDA ABDULLAH | ainhuda@revonmedia.com Writer | POOVENRAJ KANAGARAJ | poovenraj kanagaraj@revonmedia.com Degenerative disc disease - When backaches become unbearable What you need to know about hormone replacement therapy 26-27 Published by: Revon Media Sdn Bhd Revongen Corporation Centre, No. 12A, Jalan TP 5, Taman Perindustrian UEP, 47600 Subang Jaya, Selangor DE Malaysia.
