This commitment has led to significant growth in fragrant rice cultivation , with 690 hectares now planted in Selangor and Perak , involving 361 farmers - an impressive increase from the initial 28 hectares and six farmers .
This growth demonstrates the trust local farmers have in FGV IF and its sustainable farming practices .
FGV farmer Khairul Affendi Jarnuri said : " This programme of planting fragrant rice has increased the farmers income because of the higher buy back price . The SOP provided by FGV helps to increase yield in SMART SBB programme ."
Another farmer shared : “ Since joining SMART SBB , I ’ ve seen my yield increase significantly . It ’ s not just about the rice anymore ; it ’ s about a better life for my family .” The programme offers hands-on assistance and better farming practices , ultimately raising the standard of living for local farmers across Malaysia .
The impact on local farming communities has been profound , with farmers experiencing a 45 per cent increase in income after adopting fragrant rice cultivation through FGV ’ s initiatives .
This improvement is attributed to higher buyback prices and increased yields , all resulting from strict adherence to SOPs in upstream activities .
The collaboration has fostered a sense of pride among local farmers , promoting their rice on both national and international platforms and enhancing the reputation of Malaysian agriculture .
